IIIF Manifest

Digital Collections (DC), built on the Samvera Hyrax platform, uses the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF, Home) for providing display and playback of image, audio, and video files.

To find the IIIF manifest for a particular DC record, add the string “/manifest.json” to the DC record’s internal URL. That’s the link at the top of the DC record that uses the generic work ID.

Universal Viewer

For images, DC utilizes IIIF’s Universal Viewer (Universal Viewer) which has a number of features.

Users can download derivative JPG files by clicking the download button in the lower left corner.

Share & embed options

Users can also locate the IIIF manifest by clicking the connecting logo and then “Share” tab. Note: There may be extraneous characters to remove after the manifest.json string. This section also includes an “Embed” tab with code that can be copied into websites to display the images.

More information

The IIIF manifest for each record contains some metadata from the DC record, including title.

Using the manifest in the Universal Viewer elsewhere

To see how the manifest will work in the Universal Viewer in another site that enables it, go to the Universal Viewer site (Universal Viewer) and enter the DC manifest string into the “View a IIIF Manifest” section.
