Manga Shoppu Shiriizu

The manga collection here at The Ohio State University is an exciting resource, and there are frequently exciting events and updates.  Just arrived from Japan is a massive collection of republished manga, the Manga Shoppu Shiriizu.  These are titles that have never made it to our shores, and some haven't even been available in Japan since the 1970s and 1980s.  They have been republished in shiny new large volumes, and the collection features many complete series.

Series in this collection include a few famous titles, several sports manga, some of which are factual, and manga of every genre imaginable, from mystery to sci-fi to romance.  While it may be some time before these manga are catalogued and ready to be checked out for reading at the Cartoon Library, this is still an amazing addition to the collection and well worth the wait!

There are over 150 volumes in the collection, and each volume is a few hundred pages long, some encompassing entire series.  Many of the volumes have furigana, making them easier to read for beginning students of Japanese with limited knowledge of kanji.

A few titles in the collection are:
ゼロ戦行進曲 (Zero Senkoushinkyoku): A war story about the blood and tears spilt by a special strike force made up of young boys.

あいつ!(Aitsu!): A romance about a high school boy who will do anything to win the heart of his beautiful, older classmate.

復讐記 (Fukushuuki): A manga retelling of the classic novel, The Count of Monte Cristo.

The publisher's homepage (Japanese) has a list of all the manga published in the collection so far.  The Ohio State Library has purchased all the titles up through 2008, and they will eventually be available to students for reading.
