Master Objects Migration Project Plan Home

The Ohio State University Libraries' archivists and curators in collaboration with project partners need to analyze the collections which they are responsible for in order to identify Master Objects that will be migrated to the Master Objects Repository.  This analysis includes:

  • the current an ongoing effort to de-duplify the collections

  • identification of Master Objects based on the definitions developed in the Master Objects Repository Task Force Report

  • identification of file dependencies (i.e.is there a secondary file that is required to render a particular master object)

  • identification and articulation of the amount of existing metadata and to what extent if fulfills the minimum metadata requirements

This analysis is crucial to determining the amount of time this project will ultimately take, as well as establishing migration priorities.

Analysis Tool: We will be utilizing an Access database with a dashboard that will walk the responsible party through an analysis of each collection. A database will be created for each Department and will be accessible via BuckeyeBox.

Considerations

  • Collection Name

  • Unit Responsible for Collection

  • Archivist/Curator Responsible for Collection

  • Is the collection contained solely within its directory its directory within the DarkArchives? If not are their additional files in:

    • KB directories

    • DI directories

    • J-Drive directories

    • External media

  • Do the objects meet the definition of a "Master Object"?

    • If yes, what type of Master are they?

    • If no, what type of derived objects are they and what is their purpose?

    • Should this collection/these objects be kept?

  • Are the formats preservation quality?

  • Does metadata exist for:

    • the collection

    • the individual objects

  • Can metadata be extracted from the objects?

  • What "rights" do we have for the collection?
